Save The Scooters

The city of Tampa is getting tired of pulling e-scooters out of the Hillsborough River, and picking them up all over the city where users just dump them. One solution they’re going to try are docking stations, making the companies who supply the scooters responsible. It may not feel like it when you fill up at the pump, but gas prices are down 6-7 cents over the last week. We can thank the gas supply being restored in South Florida. AAA reports the average gas price across the state is $3.65 a gallon. Check those gas prices every day with the map from AAA.

A 100 year old survivor of the Holocaust will throw out the first pitch at tonight’s Rays-Yankees game. Helen Kahan will celebrate that milestone birthday at the game, as part of the partnership between the Rays and the Florida Holocaust Museum where you can witness Helen’s life story.

Someone tried to access the files in the office of the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Office’s network, but were not entirely successful. According to Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Craig Latimer they did not have the proper credentials, and they are still searching for the source of the breach. This past weekend’s storms may have kept us off the beach, but there were still visitors. Tiny octopuses washed onshore and they’re being found along Pinellas County beaches. They may pygmy octopus, and it’s important they find way back into the water within minutes to survive, so if you happen to see them, gently place them back into the water. The Tampa Bay Times has the full story.

But those storms didn’t last long enough, so drought conditions continue in Pinellas County, and new rules are in place for using reclaimed water. This affects customers living north of Curlew, and you’ll only be allowed to water the lawn one day a week instead of three. For more on the rules please check with the county here.

It’s time to dim the lights at the beach and make sure you fill in any holes you dig on the beach. Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota has the first documented sea turtle nest of the season. Volunteers walk the beaches to search for them each year, and found this one just hours after they began last Saturday. Mote post the sea turtle nest count here, and reminds you it is a federal crime to disturb a nest, and that the loggerhead is an endangered species.
