Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival Returns

Clearwater Beach

The Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival is back on Clearwater Beach, just time for Easter weekend. The large tent with spectacular sculptures will be open Sundays-Thursdays through April 23rd from 10 am to 10 pm Fridays-Saturdays and 10 am to 9 pm Sundays-Thursdays.

There are two names that will no longer appear on the list of hurricane names. Fiona and Ian have been officially retired by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) due to the deaths associated with the storms and the catastrophic amount of damage. The National Hurricane Center is also making changes to how they report their Tropical Weather Outlook. They will now start issuing storm reports seven days out, instead of five. Hurricane season officially begins June 1st, and for additional information on how to stay safe and track the storms, keep the Dove Hurricane Guide with our meteorologists from 10 Tampa Bay handy on the Dove app at @1055thedove and on our site. Hurricane season begins June 1st.

Monday’s report from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said Hurricane Ian did make it to Category 5 status for a while before it made landfall in southwest Florida. The storm caused $112 billion in damage, and 115 lives were lost. At one point, Ian’s winds reached estimated at 161 mph when it passed by the Dry Tortugas Sept. 28th.

Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful was hard at work last Tuesday and took close to 20 electric scooters out of the Hillsborough River, along with a lot of other debris during their annual river cleanup with Florida Wildlife Commission and Tampa Police Department. Volunteers worked along the shore and divers were in the water. For more on the work of TBB and to volunteer, please check here.
