NOAA is out with what we can expect this hurricane season that officially begins Thursday. This year, expect 12-17 named storms, 5-9 hurricanes and 1-4 major hurricanes. In an average season, we would normally see 14 named storms, 7 hurricanes and 3 major hurricanes. Floridians can save on supplies with the first of two disaster preparedness holidays coming up. It begins this Saturday, May 27th and runs through Friday, June 9th. The second will be from August 26th through Sept. 8th. Check with the Florida Department of Revenue for supplies that are tax-free, and in the Dove Hurricane Guide for tips for staying safe before and after the storm. We also have the list of other holidays to save that include back-to-school shopping.

St Pete Police are partnering with the Florida Department of Transportation to crack down on aggressive drivers and people who text and drive. The Enhanced Law Enforcement Engagement program will target some of the deadliest intersections in the city that include Roosevelt Boulevard, Gandy Boulevard, and the Pinellas Bayway. The increased law enforcement will last at least through October.

For this Memorial Day Weekend, AAA also has the Two-To-Go Program back, and you don’t need to be a member. If you feel you’re not able to drive, AAA will offer you a ride home, and tow your car when you call (855) 2-TOW-2-GO or (855) 286-9246. For additional rules on the program, check here. This year marks the 25th anniversary of Tow-To-Go.

Memorial Day weekend kicks off the summer travel season, and at Tampa International Airport there’s already a significant rise in passengers. TPA expects it to be the busiest summer ever with up to 70,000 passing through during the week, and up to 90,000 on the weekend. Follow their Twitter feed for advisories and more this weekend.
