The City of Treasure Island will close the Community Development Department today and Thursday in an effort to get a handle on their permit backlog. For now, the city has more than 1,900 permit applications and has issued about 1,000 permits. That will leave another 950 to be processed.

The Don CeSar Beach Hotel in St. Peterburg, Fla., is rumored to be haunted by Thomas Rowe, the man who built it in the 1920s, among other frightening spirits.

There’s long awaited news from the Don Cesar which has been closed since suffering hurricane damage. The Don CeSar is about to open, but there’s no firm opening date yet. The iconic hotel press release says it will be sometime in this first quarter. There was plenty to repair after the hurricanes, and the hotel’s amenities will open in phases.
