St. Petersburg MLK Dream Big Parade: One of the biggest MLK Day parades in the country will he held in downtown St. Petersburg, on First Avenue South. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. and is scheduled to run through 2 p.m. on Monday. Hollywood film producer Will Packer is grand marshal.
Tampa MLK Day Parade: The grand marshal for Tampa’s parade is former state rep and is former state representative and Hillsborough County commissioner Les Miller. The parade begins at noon on Monday at Cuscaden Park, at 2900 N. 15th St. It concludes at Middleton High School, 4801 N. 22nd St., Tampa.
Other events this weekend include the St. Petersburg Power & Sailboat Show from10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19 at Albert Whitted Park on 480 Bayshore Drive SE, St. Petersburg. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Feeding Tampa Bay.
The Cher Show runs through following Sunday at The Straz Center for the Performing Arts in Tampa, and The Florida Orchestra: Dancing in the Street will also be at the Straz showcasing the magic of Motown with St. Petersburg native and “American Idol” star Michael Lynche on vocals. Friday, Jan. 17, 8 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts, 1010 N. W.C. MacInnes Place, Tampa. Tickets start at $23. floridaorchestra.org.
The Children’s Gasparilla Parade is this Saturday Jan 18th. Parade is 4-615 with the Preschoolers Stroll at 2 pm. Fireworks at 7 pm.
