Jimi Hendrix Tops 'rolling Stone' Magazine List Of Guitar Greats![]() The late Jimi Hendrix topped a wide-ranging list of "The 100 Greatest Guitarists Of All Time" in the new issue of Rolling Stone magazine, which comes out on Friday (August 29th). The magazine's staff compiled the survey, which includes classic rockers such as Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, and the late Duane Allman, as well as younger headbangers like Metallica's Kirk Hammett, early heroes like Bo Diddley and Chuck Berry, newer ones like the White Stripes' Jack White -- the youngest player on the list at 28 -- and international players like Africa's Ali Farke Toure. In a tribute to Hendrix, the Who's Pete Townshend -- who comes in at Number 50 on the list -- writes that he was "so profoundly powerful" and "made the electric guitar beautiful." Townshend also recalls one particular Hendrix show that was so moving he and Clapton wound up holding hands. Two women are featured on the list -- Joni Mitchell at Number 72, and Joan Jett at Number 87. In addition to Hendrix, the Top 10 includes Duane Allman, B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Robert Johnson, Chuck Berry, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Ry Cooder, Jimmy Page, and Keith Richards. from LAUNCH media More music headlines | |
